01: Introduction

ISAs replaced PEPs and TESSAs for new investment with effect from 6 April 1999. ISAs are tax-privileged investment plans and the amount that you can invest in them is limited by annual limits. ISAs may only be run by HMRC approved ISA managers. On 6 April 2008, all personal equity plans (PEPs) were reclassified as stocks and shares ISAs and the PEP regulations were withdrawn.
